{Things I Love} March 2010

So February came and went without posting “Things I Love” for February. That is just how last month went. There were ups…like my first workshop, and there were downs…like my husband going to Afghanistan and my mother having heart surgery in Minnesota. But I made it. March is here and things are looking up so I decided now is the time to do my monthly post about things that I love at this time in my life.  Here they are:

1.  I love my IPhone, like millions of other human beings.  It is genius!  I love it because it serves so many purposes for me.  It is my email navigator, my calendar, my photography portfolio at a glance, my toy, as well as my main means of communication.  And apps, oh don’t get me started.  Let’s see, right now, I am loving my apps for: Spanish Translation, Sunrise and Sunset, Weather, My Bank, Animoto, Flight Tracker, PDF Reader, Open Table and Scrabble.  BTW-I will be all over the IPad on April 3rd.  Who doesn’t want a larger version of this little box of magic?

2.  I love my new Silpada Ring.  It is so cute.  My sister gave it to me as an early Mother’s Day/Birthday Gift.  That was a nice way to end February for me.  “It’s the little things!”  Thanks Vic!

3.  I love Butter Chicken, but only the Butter Chicken that is on the Pioneer Woman’s Tasty Kitchen Site.  It is heaven, even without some of the ingredients, like Cardamom and Ground Corriander.  Try this and you will want it at least once a week.  The Pioneer Woman herself, Ree Drummond, allowed me to use her picture on my blog, so YES, I have permission.  I have a facebook message to prove it!  Thanks Ree!

The Whole Gang | Fairfield Family Photographer

I am sure you all remember this little girl.  Well, I had the pleasure of capturing her again, with her parents and her grandparents.  I am so glad we got the photo shoot in before the rain today.   Look at her!

Here is Lauren and her parents, Susan and Joey.

And I am sure you all know how much I love the mustard that grows here in the spring.  It is so beautiful, even on a gloomy morning.

Baby Boy on the Way! | Fairfield Maternity Photographer

Nicki and Chad won’t just be “Nicki and Chad” much longer.  This little babykins is going to make his appearance within the next month and I am so blessed to have been able to photograph them at this stage in their lives.  Nicki, you are completely adorable!  We shot in the rain this morning, which is something I don’t normally do, but I wanted to make sure we got this session in before “Little Mister” decided to join his parents in the world.   There is something so calming about these two together.  It was so sweet to watch the emotion, the excitement that they will soon be “a mommy” and “a daddy” to the precious gift in her belly.   Enjoy your sneak peek!  I can’t wait to get my hands on that little one for his newborn shoot!

I am so proud of my hubby!

It has now been almost 48 hours since he left.  I am getting used to the single-parent thing again and thought I would bust out this blog post before all the emotion of the day is gone.  I continue to watch the news coverage of his deployment day and I am constantly reminded about how proud I am of him and all the other military service members that do this.  I mean, really do this…they pack up their bags for an unknown amount of time, they try to cram as much time in with their children and spouse, they say goodbye to us with tears in their eyes, knowing that they are going to a place with probably not-so-great living arrangements, unknown dangers, and constant reminders of how it is so much better to be at home with their family. My husband and your military members choose this occupation.  They go to defend our country in any way possible.  They have “american blood” flowing through their veins.  I’ll say it again…I am so PROUD of him and I am so PROUD to be a Military Spouse!

…So we said goodbye on Friday.  How long…unsure.

I caught him looking at something while getting ready, not knowing that the flag on our wall was faintly in the background.  Very fitting I thought.  He hates it when I snap these pics.  Sorry honey.

This is what an “unknown” amount of time warrants in packing.  I sure hope the zippers hold.  The bottom bags get loaded as cargo and he carries the top backpack and sleeping bag on his back, along with wearing his vest, which is about 60 pounds alone.  Ouch!

Cooper’s class made Scott a book full of letters, each written from his classmates.  They asked questions about flying, Afghanistan, and what he will eat while he is gone.  But the most touching was that the students said they would play with Cooper while he was gone.  How sweet is that!

Here he is talking to his group just before they were to board the busses to go through a long “get-all-your-stuff” process.

At the end of the process that families meet them again in the terminal so they can wait with them until they board the plane.  We have a great team that puts together “Operation Proud Farewell”.  OPF  feeds our members before the long flight, with food donated from the community.  They also provide snacks, pillows, etc. for the airmen to take with them.So the time finally comes where you have to say goodbye.  Scott walked us to the car and the rest of the emotion is in the pics.   Goodbyes are very hard for both of us.  Gosh, I love this man.

A Beautiful Day! | Solano County Wedding Photographer

I had the wonderful opportunity to second-shoot this fabulous wedding on Valentine’s Day with Becky Fisher out of Orange County.  You will see her in action later on in the images.  She is a great photographer/person with the kindest soul.  We had a blast together!  If you are in need of a photographer in that area, check her out!

Let’s get to the bride and groom!   They were so ready to do this!  It was a bright, sunny, warm day in Suisun Valley.  The church, so quaint and charming.  The wedding party was ultra gorgeous, every single one of them.  It made for a great day of photographing.  When second shooting for another photographer, I usually am in charge of the groom, but since he wasn’t there yet, I got so snap some of the bride and her girls.

The groom and his entourage arrived right on time (I think he is that kind of guy).  Look at him so handsome.

As the ceremony was about to start, I was able to catch the groom and his mother exchanging words about how wonderful the day was going to be for him and more.  It was also breathtaking when the bride walked around the corner with her dad holding her dress and boquet.  She was shaking with excitement.  He was and is so proud of his little girl, it was quite evident.

Here are a few candids I caught during the ceremony while they read their vows to each other.

And the kiss, oh the kiss.  I love the progression of these three images.

With the ceremony behind them, they had a quiet moment as they exited the chapel.  I love these shots!

Here are a couple of the whole gang!  I love how Becky positioned everyone.  She is so good like that.

And to top it all off, the bride was “game” when we told her we wanted to put them in a field of mustard.  For future reference:  Fun Bride and Groom+Blue Sky+Bright Yellow Mustard=Fantastic Images!

Here are some of the details from the day, including Becky Fisher herself working her magic in the mustard.

Thank you Becky for allowing me to shoot with you on Valentine’s Day!
