So way back in April, we had our first “PhotoGals” weekend at my house in California. I know you are reading this, saying to yourself, “PhotoGals, what is she talking about”. Well here is the deal…
In April of 2008, I attended my first Photography Workshop in Sonoma, California. It was given by Me Ra Koh and her husband, Brian. It was the weekend that changed my life in so many ways. I met 8 wonderful women, all on a photography journey of their own. We immersed ourselves in photography and bonded for 3 days straight before I flew back across the country. At the time I was still living in Virginia. I went home and jumped head first into starting my photography business knowing that I would be moving to Northern California at the beginning of June. One of the perks of moving to California, besides the awesome weather and backyard pool, was knowing that I would be moving back to the area where 4 of these gals lived. For the next 2 years I saw 2-3 of these gals on a regular basis. We went to workshops together, practiced shooting each others’ children, even shot a couple weddings together.
So, while Scott was still in Afghanistan, we decided to get together one more time before I moved back across the country. We called it our “PhotoGals Weekend”, and that how it all began. I sent the boys to grandma and grandpa’s for 4 days so we could have the house to ourselves. Amanda flew in from Seattle. We ate great food, did some sightseeing in Napa, had great photography discussions and even learned some SEO tips from Heath Craig. From our initial Me Ra Koh workshop, there was Sharon and Jeramy Sossaman of Homegrown Photography, Amanda of Amanda Mays Photography, Michelle of Michelle Riddle Photography, and Dori Gough of Dori Gough Photography. Sasha of Sasha Craig Photography joined us as well on Saturday. I love these gals and can’t believe I will wait another year or two to have our Second PhotoGals Weekend. We might even come up with a really cool name for our group by next time:) I miss you all tons!
We braved the heat, having our own “photo session”… head shots for each other. Sasha had already left that day, but the 4 of us left had a blast being on the other end of the camera. For the next couple days I am going to introduce you to the PhotoGals, one by one. Each of them hold a very dear spot in my heart. Thank you for your friendship!
This is Michelle, my “little” friend (sorry). We stand about a foot and a half apart. She is that friend whom I never wear heels with. She is full of fabulous ideas and has the kindest heart! Isn’t she cute…
If you need a photographer in Santa Cruz, California…Michelle is your girl!
Tomorrow…Miss Amanda Mays from Seattle, Washington!
