I Love Close-Up Portraits! | Oahu Hawaii Children’s Photographer

If you were to ask me what I am drawn to when I look at images, it would hands-down be a great close-up portrait! I am just that kind of shooter, I like to shoot “tight”. There is no doubt about that! Here are some portraits I took of my adorable nephew when they visited the island in January! They were shot on two different days, two different times of the day and two different locations, hence the difference in overall color/tone of the images. These images are not at all about the background and all about the child at this stage in their life! Don’t you just love to be able to count eyelashes? I do.

Don’t be afraid to get in close when taking portraits of your kiddos. I know you will love the results.

It was such a blast chasing these absolutely adorable kiddos around Lanikai Beach during Holiday Mini-Session time! As I tell all families that contact me with children between the ages of 15 months and 2 1/2 years…they are the hardest to photography, especially with others. They get up faster than you sit them down and they turn very quickly away from the big, black, scary thing in front of the photographer’s face. I also tell the parents that this might be the year when you have to do separate images for your children on the Christmas Card:)

Well after a lot of patience and hard work…we actually got a few images with all three in.

This one is one of my favorite images of the mini-session season. Even though not all three kids are in focus, I am in love with the color, the emotion and the movement. And look at that little guy in the back, don’t you just want to squeeze him:)

We have watched this little pumpkin grow on my blog and I have been able to sqeeze her almost every day for the last 5 months. There is just something about lovin on a little girl when you have all boys in the house. And what is not to love when she dresses this cute EVERY day! Matilda Jane fans…eat your hearts out!

My littlest is 7 years old today! I can’t believe it. He is just the cutest, even tempered kid! He is just like his Daddy, “Go with the flow!” It’s so fun…they know that I always do a photo session with them on their birthday. This is probably why they turn away from my camera the other 364 days a year:)

I did a little interview with him, so we all can remember what he liked at this age.

A: I feel taller!

I love this family! They have been good friends of ours for the past 5 years. They are those kind of friends. Friends that you call after 2 years and it is like you talked yesterday. It is hard to find lifetime friends when you are part of the military, but this family to us is definately a “Lifer”!

I was fortunate to do a super quick family session with them last weekend when I was up in DC for a photography workshop. Here is your sneak peek! Isn’t he just the cutest!

I went to a workshop given by Sandi Bradshaw this weekend up in Washington DC. We had a great photoshoot on Friday with 15 models. I thought I would share one that I just got done working on.
