Holiday Photo Taking Tips!

As those close to me know, I am following a photographer named Me Ra Koh lately. She is wonderful in so many ways, but one huge way to me is that-even though she is getting famous in the wedding business and all aspects of photography, she still takes the time to help mommies and others take better photos of their kids. I encourage you to go to her blog and read the tips she recently posted about how to get that holiday photo taken. It was hilarious to me that she was so “on-target” with kids behavior during photo shoots-especially when the moms are taking the photos. Enjoy-I could read there for hours-if I had hours in the day to spare.

Wendy-I’m so excited for you to go to this workshop. I am a wedding photographer & mom who is lucky enough to live 30 minutes away from Mera and attended her Advanced Workshop in October! You will be so renewed with confidence and spirit after the workshop, dare I say, a changed woman, with pictures so sharp you could cut the crusts off of PB&J; with them :)

Virginia’s First Snow of the Season

Can you believe this amount gives us a SNOW DAY in our district. Cooper was thrilled when I told him it was his first snow day of the year.

After an hour of the boys begging to go outside and me continuing to say “we can’t, our neighbors are still asleep”–I opened the door and off they went out into the freezing temperatures to sled on what adults would call a “dusting”. I tried to prepare them about there not being enough snow and that the sleds might not work very good. But, those little orange saucers proved the mama wrong and as you can see, they performed as if there were 6 inches out there. Thank God for no injuries as there are 5 more trees planted on this hill since last winter.

They don’t even plow the roads in Minnesota for that small of an amount of snow! Great pics of the kids…

“Santa Pumpkin”

I thought for sure we would have “Santa Pumpkin” on our front steps this year. But we have finally got rid of the pumpkins. This has been a very talked about event in our house. Each time I said to Caden, we need to put our pumpkins away, he started to cry. After many failed attemps with a lot of huge tears and my mommy-mind-wheels continually turning–I decided to tell him that Santa wouldn’t come if he thought that we thought it was still Halloween. So this morning I took the pumpkins and discarded them with him watching-being very careful to collect the foam face pieces off on his pumpkin, so we can use them next year when the pumpkin comes back. In talking about Santa further I asked Caden in the car today if he wanted to find Santa at the mall this year, sit on his lap and tell him what he had on his wish list. He said, “sure”. He then went on to say, “I was scared of Santa last year because he was too Fluffy!”

A Stunning Tribute to the United States Air Force

This past weekend we went back to the Air Force Memorial for the third time. It is a breathtaking creation, that on a bright blue sky day, leaves you speechless. The Memorial itself is 270 feet high and appears to be soaring; its array of stainless steel arcs against the sky evokes the image of “contrails of the Air Force Thunderbirds as they peel back in a precision ‘bomb burst’ maneuver.” Only three of the four contrails are depicted, as the absent fourth evokes the missing man formation traditionally used at Air Force funeral fly-overs.

It is the only part of the memorial that depicts aircraft.

My mom and Ardy stand underneath the memorial with a beautiful view of Washington DC in the background.
